IndyCar dimensions: 1,590-1,630 pounds, depending on track (lightest on speedways); about 40 inches tall; about 76 inches wide; tires are 15 inches in diameter. IndyCar machines use E85 fuel (85% ethanol) and a tank holds 18.5 gallons.
The wheel rims for all IndyCar Series cars are made of aluminum alloy. The size of IndyCar Series wheel rims have been 10 in × 15 in (254 mm × 381 mm) on the front and 14 in × 15 in (356 mm × 381 mm) on the rear since 1996; this size will be used until at least the 2022 season.
Though the ground effect rule is same, both cars differ in weight significantly. F1 cars hold 585 kg at a minimum, and the Indy cars come with 1,550 lbs at least. Hence, when it comes to weight, F1 cars are much lighter than Indy cars and that is an advantage when it is about achieving speed.
There's no foot-activated clutch on IndyCars; instead, the clutch is activated with the driver's hands.
IndyCar does offer a higher minimum wage than NASCAR, with its least expensive drivers earning $300,000 annually compared to its rivals' $200,000. Only two drivers make six figures from IndyCar though, with Arrow McLaren's 23-year-old star Pato O'Ward taking home $1million.
The 18.5-gallon gas tank in an IndyCar is known as a safety fuel cell, which is basically a very flexible, extremely strong bladder or fuel bag that prevents spillage in the event of an accident.
IndyCar's speed
- less than half of NASCAR's stock cars - it's no wonder that they are quicker. To date, the fastest recorded speed in an IndyCar competition stands at 236 mph. It lags a little bit in acceleration, needing up to three seconds to reach speeds of 90 kph (56.25 mph) on a straight track.

What RPM do Indy cars run?
IndyCar engines can rev all the way to 12,000 RPM-far higher than your average road car engine. That means more power strokes per minute, without valve float or knock.

Which is quicker: F1 or IndyCar? The fact that both series use differing track types means that the definition of which is 'quicker' is somewhat blurred. Based solely on top speeds, then IndyCar wins out – Scott Dixon took pole for the 2022 Indy 500 with a 234mph run.
It might come as a surprise then that Formula 1 cars have power steering. IndyCar, however, does not. Without it, drivers must have strong arms, shoulders, and core to control the wheel.

Here are the final amounts for each of the drivers: Josef Newgarden - $3.66 million. Marcus Ericsson - $1.043 million. Santino Ferrucci - $481,800.
All told, it can cost $1 million to run one car at the Speedway this month. Of course, making the field earns you about a quarter of that back.
