The Star-Herald from Kosciusko, Mississippi (2024)

SELL TRADE WITH STAR-HERALD WANT ADS S-1, Kosciusko, Star-Herald, March 15, 1964 high to take over this spot with Frank Simmons and Dan Newell holding down the other end at this time. Other linemen singled out for their hard work in spring practice wre Thomas King, Jerry Blaine, Butch McMillan (a junior high recruit) and Doug King. Woolwine and Hardin, two of last years substitufes who saw action: in many games, have been hobbled by injuries and haven't seen much service. BILL MCCANDLESS has been running well at fullback until his arm was broken in practice. He is another of the "bright spots" in the backfield according to the coaches.

Bill was one of Coach Gardner's first stringers who moved up to plug some gaps. To sum up the picture as it looks at this time, Coach Thomas reports "good backfield prospects but the Whippets will be mighty thin in the line. We must come up with tackles to spell Ballard and Owen and as of now I just don't see where they're coming from." Kosy fans will get a chance to see the Whippets in action for the first time in 1964 this coming Tuesday night. A large crowd is expected as much interest has been expressed in the Whippets football machine since graduation loses hit them hard.
